The Katherine Mansfield Room is named after New Zealand’s most famous writer, best known for her innovative short stories and revealing journals. Kathleen Mansfield Beauchamp was born in Wellington and her birthplace in Tinakori Road, Thorndon, is open to the public.

This upstairs room has a queen bed; an ensuite bathroom with a shower, toilet and basin; tea and coffee making facilities; a good-sized wardrobe; and book shelves. It has opening windows that provide a through breeze. For heating there is an oil-filled heater – but no heat pump/air conditioner. A baby bed is available.

It has a view of the city and of the trees of the city’s green belt – looking across to the steps that take you to a Lord of the Rings filming site for the shire where trees almost join over a forest track. It is approx. 3.6 x 6m.
